Swim, really?

Isn’t that what you always do, Rob?

Eat healthily, take long walks, swim, and train regularly. Mostly yes.

Truth be told, I’ve been slacking a little lately and making excuses along the way until I realized I deviated from my path and had to make some changes to get myself back in top shape physically and mentally.

Long story short: I’ve recently moved around quite a bit, trying to decide where to live for the long term.

1- I traveled to Thailand – I didn’t like that and didn’t swim.

2 – Then I went to Malaysia and didn’t love that either nor did I swim.

3 – As a result, I returned to Cambodia and lived in the quiet south for a while, but decided it wasn’t helping my inspiration or mental health. It was simply too boring and limited.

Finally, I settled back in the capital, Phnom Penh, because I found a suitable place to live in a nice location in the city and started to swim again.

Side Note: After six weeks in Phnom Penh, I’m not sure I want to stay here either. It’s too busy, can get annoying, and there are several dangerous situations one can easily slip into.

Travel takes time and disrupts your routine and flow, which is not conducive to productivity.

Settling down made a big difference – but that also came at a price…and now I may have to re-settle elsewhere. I have a great place in mind, much quieter and beautiful. I will reveal it once I arrive there next week.

Working all hours under the sun and unknowingly burning out

I had a lot of catching up to do, so I battened down the hatches and went on a working crusade.

Work, eat, exercise a bit, sleep, and repeat.

It took me a while to realize and admit that I was driving myself to exhaustion.

  1. I was working too many and late hours.
  2. I wasn’t getting anywhere near enough quality sleep.
  3. My diet remained on course, but I wasn’t eating enough.
  4. While I still walked and did some exercise, it was maybe 50% of what I usually do.

The result: While work (and income) were improving, my mindset, physical health, and energy were heading in the wrong direction.

It dawned on me that I wasn’t feeling like my usual powerful and driven self. I was dragging my feet and just trying to manage the necessary.

Then came the Back Pain

Things turned really bad when my left lower back began to hurt like crazy when I lay down, bent forward, or got up.

A visit to a chiropractor confirmed my diagnosis – Sciatica.

Definition of Sciatica:

Pain affecting the back, hip, and outer side of the leg, caused by compression of a

spinal
nerve root in the lower back, often owing to
degeneration
of an
intervertebral
disc.

I developed Sciatica over time and not by chance or bad luck.

It decided to hit me because I had clearly been sitting too much and wasn’t moving my ass anywhere near enough – especially as I am used to doing far more than I was.

I wasn’t lazy, I prioritized work and gave my health little thought at the time.

Sciatica: Anyone can develop this condition naturally by aging, and many do. The most effective way to avoid and even eliminate it is with plenty of frequent movement and wellness treatments.

Joining a health/swim club (not a gym) solved my problem

What I am calling a “health club” is a luxury resort hotel, yet it’s affordable.

It consists of a superb and quiet 25-meter lap pool, a small but modern gym (also with hardly any people), and a steam and sauna room.

It’s located bang on the Riverside in town, a 15-minute walk from my apartment.

I started swimming and hitting the steam room daily one week ago. Not only has my back pain disappeared, but I’ve regained my power, energy, and appetite.

That’s why I decided to set myself the challenge and continue this program for 30 days without fail to measure the changes in both body and mind and then openly record and report them.

I will continue my walking and strength training routine, but my main focus for the month is swimming and wellness in the form of the steam and sauna room.

Check out my YouTube video where I demonstrate how to swim sprint:

The happy ending awaits!

Now, I have found a solution to this immobilizing and quite excruciating condition; I’m more than committed to sticking to my plan and not quitting.

I’m sure to soon see a much stronger and leaner me, with a far more focused and positive mindset.

While working hard is vital, keeping a healthy balance in life is equally essential.

If you neglect your body, eventually, your mind will neglect you, rendering you pretty useless, tired, and depressed.

Please share this story with your friends and support me on my mission to help 1 million people regain their health by 2030!
